Is it safe to hike after the earquakes and other FAQ about hiking in Taiwan

After the recent major earthquake, many people and travelers are concerned about the safety of hiking in Taiwan. Questions about hiking post-typhoon are also common.

In this post, I'll address these concerns, as well as other frequently asked questions about permits, hiring porters, gear rentals, weather, and car rentals.

I often receive inquiries about temperatures in the high mountains. To assist, I've included a graphic that illustrates how altitude affects the temperature in the high mountains. Rain and wind can also significantly lower the temperature. The best way is always to check the weather forecast before your hike.
